Skulduggery Create a Character Competition Terms and Conditions

Terms and conditions apply. Please read these carefully before entering.

1. This competition is promoted by HarperCollins Publishers (“HarperCollins”), 77-85 Fulham Palace Road, London W6 8JB.

2. No purchase necessary.

3. To enter this prize draw you must have permission from a parent or legal guardian if you are under 16 years of age.

4. Please enter by submitting your character description in the fields provided on www.skulduggerypleasant.co.uk. You enter a character name, gender, visual description and magical attributes to be considered.

5. Only one entry per person per household allowed.

6. To be eligible, entries must be received before midnight on Friday 30th April 2010.

7. No responsibility can be accepted by HarperCollins for entries that are lost, delayed, damaged or incorrectly entered.

8. The instructions for entry contained in the adverts publicising this competition on www.skulduggerypleasant.co.uk and in the official newsletter form part of the competition rules.

9. Any personal information (such as the entrant’s name, date of birth, email address and address) will be used solely in connection with this competition and will not be disclosed to any third party, except for the purpose of fulfilling the prize where applicable or if you have opted to join our mailing list. 10. A shortlist of 10 entrants will be selected by HarperCollins by 7th May 2010. These will be selected by a panel of judges at HarperCollins consisting of Derek Landy’s editor, publisher and Marketing Manager, and will be judged on the creativity of those entries. The shortlisted entries will then be passed on to Derek Landy to judge.

11. One winner will be selected from the shortlist by Derek Landy by 14th May 2010 based on the suitability of the character and how well they will fit within the storylines of book 5. Mr Landy’s decision will be final.

12. The winning character will feature in at least one scene in Skulduggery Pleasant Book 5 by Derek Landy, scheduled for release on 2nd September 2010. The winner will also receive a short story written by Derek Landy specifically about your character and also a visual representation of your character by HarperCollins’ Skulduggery artist.

13. The winner will receive a copy of Skulduggery Pleasant Book 5, their short story and their drawing in September 2010.

14. By entering this competition you agree that if you win, no payment will be made to you for your entry, or for any sales of the book, or for any other reason, and you agree to assign all intellectual property and other rights you may have in the entry and book to HarperCollins. You will have no say in the way the character is used as part of the story or short story.

15. Only the winning character will be used, and all other entries will be destroyed. Any resemblance in the future to any character you have created as part of this competition will therefore be purely coincidental

16. The winner will be announced on www.skulduggerypleasant.co.uk after they have been contacted by HarperCollins by email or phone by 14th May 2010

17. Winners will be asked to supply their full postal address if they are selected in order to be sent their prize (as detailed above)

18. By entering this competition, you are agreeing that if you win your name and image may be used for the purpose of announcing the winner in any related publicity with HarperCollins, without additional payment or permission.

19. The prizes are not exchangeable for cash or any other prize.

You can find out who won by sending a stamped addressed envelope to Skulduggery Create a Character Competition, Marketing Dept, HarperCollins Children’s Book, 77-85 Fulham Palace Road, London W6 8JB or send an email to kids.marketing@harpercollins.co.uk with ‘Skulduggery Create a character competition’ in the subject bar.

21. This competition is open to all, except employees of HarperCollins and their immediate families.

22. Entry to the competition is conditional on acceptance of these terms and conditions. By entering your character you are deemed to have read and accepted these terms.

23. HarperCollins have organised this prize draw in good faith and does not accept any liability relating to the prize.

24. Any dispute relating to the competition shall be governed by the laws of England and Wales and will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
